Artist's Description

Depicted here are the last 3 Mexican Generals or "Comandantes" of Mexican California prior to the Yankee Conquest. They are (l to r) Pablo de la Guerra, Salvador Vallejo, and Andrés Pico. They were later commissioned as Generals in the California Militia following the conquest of California, as set forth in the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in 1848. They are shown seated with Mission Carmel in the background with a setting sun (symbolizing the end of the Mexican Era) The Mission is overlaid with the 3 colors of the Mexican Flag...red, white, and green. This scene is in my mural of California Military History painted for the California State Military Museum, Old Sacramento, California.

My art education and training has...
